Will a water moccasin bite twice?

My 2 co-workers have been arguing about snakes and one said that a water moccasin bite his cousin twice which caused his coiusins death and the other co-worker is arguing that a water moccasin will only bite once.

Both the moccasin and the cotton mouth are aggressive enough to bite multiple times. Unlike a rattler that will usually only bite a much larger animal when stepped on, the moccasin my pursue an animal too large to eat without having been provoked.

yes they will bite more than once if they are continously being threatened. the first bite will be the most toxic, since it takes time to produce more poison. but each bite will contain poison.

yes they will bite twice or more than twice

moccasins are pretty cranky, like many water snakes, so it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that somoebody had been bitten more than once. I don’t believe that there is any hard and fast rule about number of bites, though. Depends on the situation, how upset the snake is, etc. Even two full-strength bites from a moccasin seem like a little low for death, though, but of course, there’s so much unknown about the story.

A snake will strike as many times it thinks is necessary. However after the first 3 or 4 strikes it’ll probably run out of venom.

Water moccasins are more noted for biting and holding on though so there might be something to what they said.

They will bite as long as they feel the need to bite.

We have them here in Florida and they come in pairs, you maynot know where the other one is due too they do attack you.But they only bite once.the person your talking about might not of seen the second one and thinks the same snake bite twice.

Sure, if it is angry enough. Water moccasins do however tend to give "Dry Bites" where no venom is injected. Also, healthy adult deaths from the bites are rare, and won’t usually happen unless the victim receives no treatment.

thy can bite as many times as they want it will bite and inject poison until it feels safe but it is unlikely that it will bite more then once. They are very surly and not something you want to be around!

  • Aero_Babe:

Eh ill just take the 2. Thanks!

  • Ask & I might tell:

Um, I don’t know, and I don’t think I want to find out.

any snake will continue to bite if it feels it is STILL in danger.
