How can I keep leather moccasin laces tied?

Leather laces are very stiff and thick. It is difficult to pull them hard to make a tight knot.

Leather softens with use, so take the laces out and roll them around in your hands, stretch them, wiggle them around…pretend to tie and untie them many times. You can also oil the leather with mineral oil, although that will darken the leather. You can also soften them the traditional way, by chewing on them, the acid in saliva softens the leather, but I don’t recommend that…YUCK!
