Are water moccasin bites fatal?

Someone I know got bitten by a water moccasin and I was wondering if it is fatal and if it is how long do we have before the person dies or something like that.

Here’s the thing… unless this person is allergic and/or (no offense, but it’s the wording my brain wants to use) too stupid to seek medical attention for a venomous snake bite, it’s not fatal. They might ~wish~ they were dead, and even if they don’t seek medical attention in most cases they’ll live through it (disfigured, but still) if they’re a healthy adult. In some cases, depending on the severity of the bite, antivenin may not be administered because the risks of allerigic reaction to the horse blood protiens in the antivenin may outweigh the damage that the bite will cause.

When you’ve been injected with a substance that is designed to digest meat, you ~really~ should go to the E.R….

water moccasin bites are very rarely fatal, and I would say that its next to impossible to get bit by one while scuba diving. …

yes there fatal there very very fatal and he has 30 Min’s to 40 Min’s before the venom gets bad

It varies. If someone is very young or old the bites can definitely be fatal. Also many people may have a severe reaction to the venom. It can also depend on the snake, they can control the amount of venom injected and very young snakes generally inject quite a dose of venom. The best thing to do is to seek medical treatment at a hospital, I would recommend to take the person to the hospital immediately, better safe than sorry.

What does "dies or something like that…" even mean?

I stepped into a whole swarm of moccasins and got bit on each foot and when I grabbed them to get them off they bit me on each hand. We were only half way to the hospital when my legs fell off and by the time I saw a doctor my arms done fell off, I was thinkin to myself :What da hec happen here" anyhow they gave me da anti venom shot put some band-aids on my stubs and I waddled right on out of there.

Rarely fatal, even if not treated. I didn’t get much of a bite but all I felt was a tingling sensation, as if my finger had "gone to sleep". I lived. The snake didn’t.
